Best Interior Merchandising of a Common Area

Nominated By:    Linowes Design Associates                                     Location:    Arlington, Va.

Project Statement:

Latitude is designed with an intriguing blend of classical finishes, detailed to achieve a contemporary feel that is cohesive with the building’s architecture. The lobby is a long narrow space with high ceilings designed to create semi-private lounge areas that overlook the exterior walkway. The unusually high ceilings, along with the location of the structural columns, were used as design elements to visually divide the length of the space. They were clad in stone with an inset of black crocodile leather that that runs up vertically and then horizontally on the underside of the pilaster headers. The lobby design mixes combinations of light stones and accents of dark mosaic detail. Zebra wood millwork panels pair perfectly with the stone to create a spacious and grand feeling. The space was completed with custom metal chain chandeliers and clean-lined furnishings. The 12th-floor party room offers skyline views and overlooks an outdoor patio. It is the perfect blend of comfort and function.

The overall design, dark floors contrasting with white plaster walls, intricately dyed patterned veneer wall panels and fabulous views create a background for colorful furnishings. A cozy space for TV and conversation is at one end, a gaming area is center and the hospitality bar, gathering table and additional lounge seating at the opposite end are all inviting and soothing cool greys, white, black, turquoise and accents of amber gold. The chic and glamorous dog spa includes custom wash tubs, blow-dry stations and a lounge. The space was designed with clean, fresh white finishes and accents of plum with a bubble crystal chandelier. A large window wall holds a custom mural of dog images that creates a WOW factor from near-by pedestrian traffic. The property also includes a state-of-the-art fitness center, private conference area and earned LEED Gold certification.
